Mount Kasprowy Wierch is the symbol of Polish skiing as well as the starting point for many hiking trails.

Experienced hikers can head east to Mount Świnica and the Zawrat Pass. The Czerwone Wierchy peaks (Kopa Kondracka, Giewont, Małołączniak, Krzesanica, Ciemniak) can be reached by heading west.

The ascent of Kasprowy Wierch begins with a three-and-a-half-hour walk from Kuźnice, or a ride on the cable railway, which gives you a tremendous view of Hala Kondratowa meadow and Mount Giewont. Below the cable car the Kasprowa Valley and Bystra stream shrink before your eyes. After the exchange at Myślenickie Turnie station the real views begin as the car climbs towards its highest point 180 m above the ground. I recommend taking a seat in the front right corner; this is the best seat for the views. The ‘islands’ of Goryczkowa, perilous in appearance and towering on your right just before the end of the route, are particularly impressive. I also recommend opening the window and leaning out to look towards Zakopane.
As you leave the cable car station at the top there is a viewing terrace on the left from where you can see the many peaks visible from Kasprowy Wierch. All sightseeing groups make for nearby Mount Beskid, from which there is a great panorama of Hala Gąsienicowa meadow, Czerwone Wierchy and the Slovak Tatras. If you do not head for any of the summits mentioned at the beginning of this section, you descend on a yellow trail to the Gąsienicowa Valley. This trail is rather hard on the legs. Two hours of easy but steep descent gives your knees a hard time and seems to last forever. I do not have good memories of this walk-down. You should also remember that, then, there is a one-and-a-half-hour descent from the Murowaniec lodge to Kuźnice.
An important note: there is a board providing information about weather conditions on Kasprowy Wierch in front of the cable car station in Kuźnice. It pays to take a look at it. Often when is very warm in the town it is only a few degrees at the top. Pack a warm hooded jacket.
