THE ZA BRAMKĄ VALLEY

If you need encouragement I should add that Jan Kasprowicz used to walk here regularly. The mouth of the valley can be reached in 35 minutes from the Strążyska Valley via the Droga pod Reglami path, or in 15 minutes from the Gronik forester’s lodge at the mouth of the Małej Łąki Valley. It is a very pretty and peaceful place; a kind of amalgam of the Kościeliska and Białego valleys with its footbridges, water cascades, beautiful flora and rocky peaks. The valley is two kilometres long and has an area of about 100 ha. It takes just half an hour to walk its length, but its gorge-like form gives it an extraordinary character. It is adorned with unusual, gate-shaped dolomite rock forms, to which it owns its name (bramka means ‘gate’ in Polish—translator’s note). After 10 minutes of strolling you reach the awesome jagged peaks of Jasiowe Turnie standing in a three-dimensional row, so close to the trail that it is hard to break yourself away from their spell. As you continue, the valley narrows and beautiful beech trees, some of them 200 years old, can be seen among the pines growing beside the path. After crossing the stream you can see a glade in the distance from which the water falls in a cascade. This is where the trail ends. When the snows are melting the glade becomes a water-covered meadow. You can cross the stream on stepping-stones and take rest on one of the two large wooden benches near the forest. In the past, the trail continued to the Strążyska Valley, but now you can only go back the way you came because there is an impassable swampy area beyond the waterlogged glade.
